Artist Essay About Painting

The winter of 2014-15 was a cold one with much snow for cross country, as well as downhill skiers. My skiing days have gradually come to a close although I still write about them in my warm studio— as well as create paintings of the sport. “Green Lakes Winter Nocturne” depicts the mounds of snow which bordered the lake. The warm sky makes the subject more tolerable.  I have used shadows to indicate a few tree branches. Their large trunks are set off in contrast to the background. This illustrates the fact: —“winter is indeed beautiful” this oil on canvas painting is 36”x48” in size.
