Emile Gele’

Professor Emile Gele taught basic design during the 1940’s and 50’s at Syracuse University, during the height of Modernism. His oil paintings served as color explorations for his designs, and this particular piece is part of a larger body of work that addressed the notion of “Gonfalon”, which is a type of heraldic flag or banner from French heraldry.
