Hall Groat II Paintings
My work is concerned with an unique technical and thematic ambience, a very Baroque meditation on the fugitive nature of time, the presence of death, and the innate beauty in the objective. The simplicty of my work is the basis for its psychological impact on the viewer and austere and transcendent formal value. -Hall Groat II, 2006
This piece was painted from direct observation in my studio under natural light. I like the simplicity of the composition.
PURCHASED BY ART COLLECTOR FROM COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
This piece was painted from direct observation in my studio under warm tungsten light. I’m very intriqued by Baroque painting, and the idea of realizing through paint a particular mood and atmosphere within a shallow space. Suggesting characteristic details is important, however I’m most concerned with atmospheric space, light, the evocotive nature of paint in itself, and discovering edges in forms that dissolve into the surrounding space.
